Volunteer: Clothing Processor (2026)Duties and Responsibilities
Upon arrival at Sharia's Closet, volunteers will be presented with several opportunities related to the operational needs of the Closet. Volunteers may select how they want to support! Options may include, but are not limited to: Sort & Quality Check: Quality check and sort incoming donations into bins that will be used to replenish shelves. This activity may occur outside at folding tables, weather permitting. Restock: Survey the shelves of the closet and identify items that need to be replenished. Pull from bins in Replenishment to restock shelves. When replenishing, please make sure items are nicely folded and presentable on the shelves. If time permits, colorizing would be amazing, too! Personal Shopper: Sharia's Closet receives over 30 orders a day from people requesting clothes. The Personal Shopper reads over the order sheet, hand-selects items that meet the client's requests, and places these items into a purple bag. When this happens, the Personal Shopper can ask the Runner to go over to Replenishment to see if we have the items. Volunteer: 1B Storage Area Setup & Inventory1B Storage Area Setup & Inventory Volunteer OpportunitiesDescription Sharia’s Closet is preparing a new storage area to house organized clothing inventory. Volunteers are needed to help with two key phases of this project: preparing the physical space and organizing clothing into inventory. Upon arrival, volunteers will be assigned to one or both phases based on current needs and volunteer preference. Tasks include: Clear Out Existing Space: Remove all items currently in the designated storage area, including old furniture, supplies, and any miscellaneous materials that are no longer needed. Move Boxes of Clothing: Carefully relocate boxes of clothing out of the space to a temporary holding area. Boxes should be handled gently and stacked safely to avoid damage to contents or injury. Clean the Space: Sweep, dust, and wipe down the area once it has been cleared. Ensure the space is clean and ready for shelving, bins, and other organizational materials. Set Up Storage Infrastructure: Assemble and arrange shelving units, bins, labels, and other organizational systems as directed. Position items to allow for efficient access and a logical flow of inventory by size and type. Tasks include: Sort by Type: Separate clothing into categories such as tops, bottoms, outerwear, undergarments, accessories, and other relevant groupings as directed. Organize by Size: Within each clothing type, further organize items by size (e.g., XS, S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X, etc.). Ensure sizing labels are clearly visible. Quality Check: Inspect each item for stains, tears, missing buttons, broken zippers, or other damage. Set aside items that do not meet quality standards for review. Input into Inventory: Enter each item into the inventory tracking system, recording details such as item type, size, color, condition, and storage location. Follow the data entry guidelines provided on-site. Place in Designated Location: Once cataloged, neatly fold or hang each item and place it in its assigned spot within the new storage area. Ensure items are presentable and easy to locate.
